On December 20th, The Factory in Minneapolis invited everyone out for their first ever Minnesota Mayhem BMX jam and Team Contest that Kenny Short organized. It was definitely a different approach than most BMX contests in the world. The concept was pretty straight forward. Have six of the youngest riders at the contest take turns picking team mates of all ages and skills, then they would go head to head on three different sections of the park. Each team had their own jam, racking up points that would be calculated toward one score as a team.
Above is a BMX video giving you a look at the highlights from all the riders on each section!
RESULTS: Street: Team Jack Mini Ramp: Team Isaac Box Jump: Team Zander Overall: Team Nathan
Judges: Kenny Short, Evan Moyle and Ben Polaschek
Best Trick Winners: Reed Bleymeyer and Nick Johnson – Reed with a flip tuck no hander (10 years old) and Nick Johnson landing a 720 barspin back to back.
Contest sponsors: To Die For Clothing, QBMX, 3rd Lair Skate Park, NoWear BMX, Ride MN, Deco, Rays MTB, The Link Foundation, Shadow Conspriacy, Subrosa, Stay Strong, Lil’ Pros BMX, InterBMX, BMX Union

About the Downtown Walk About
The Walk About is part of the international “Open Streets” movement hosted by the St. Cloud Downtown Council. These events typically involve the temporary closing of the streets or, rather, opening up of selected streets to motor vehicle traffic, making them available to all non-motorized transportation and people of all abilities. With key messages and strategic execution, open streets events can be a powerfully persuasive experience that invites the public to re-imagine the streets as not just a place for motor vehicles, but a place for people. The 5K Fun Run (no registration or experience necessary) starts at Brother’s Bar & Grille on 5th Avenue at 9:00 am. All other Walk About activities, over 80, are between noon – 4pm throughout Downtown. Ride your bikes to the event and take in all of that is happening throughout the day.”

TCFF Co-Founder Dustin Grice and our show announcer Jeff “JMC” Mclearen headed out to a large pro dirt contest in Arizona this past weekend to compete with some of their friends Aj Anaya, Big Daddy, Victor Salazar, Colton Satterfield, Josh Hult, Ben Voyles, and many others. The contest was a fundraiser for a local rider who was killed in the military, and the city is building a memorial skatepark in honor of him. We love seeing parks go up in other cities, keeps our sport growing !
After a battle through the windy qualifiers, Dustin managed to make it into the finals by one spot.. 10th place. But that didn’t slow him down at all… Taking the first run in the finals, Dustin threw down a solid run with his signature “***** dropper” trick, a 360 topside no footed cancan to late downside/opposite tailwhip. After a solid first run, he threw down another run of bangers which can been seen in the video above.
The contest was based on the average of the two best runs out of three for each rider. Dustin changed it up in his last run and tailwhip the roll in (photo below, and the only on to even trick the roll in), 360 the first set, 360 invert the second set, 270 cancan tire grab into the hip, and 360 opposite whip on the last set.
The competition wasn’t easy though, especially with Voyles throwing down backflip barspin to tuck no handers on the first set, flip whips on the last set, and Josh Hult with opposite double tailwhips and 360 double downside tailwhips..
However 3 solid runs and a handful of bangers brought Dustin and TCFF the 1st place spot on the podium.
This isn’t Dustin’s first win this year either, check out his bio below from the event handouts…

15 year old shredder Colton Walker finished first in Free Flow Qualifiers contest last month in Milwaukee, and after a weekend of riding with Brett Banasiewicz “Maddog” at his skatepark in Indiana called “The Kitchen”, they both headed to Dew Tour this weekend in Ocean City for the finals !
Colton finished 9th in the Free Flow finals after taking a slam & only completing ONE run. Other competitors said if Colton would have had another solid run he would have had a good chance of placing top 3 !!
This is the second time we have had a member from TCFF in the Dew Tour Free Flow finals, back in 2007 Dustin Grice placed 2nd in Orlando, FL. Lots of local talent right here in Minnesota. Our facility is helping keep them on top, and you are always welcome to come ride with us…
Then there was Brett… If you have not heard about Brett, you have now. At 17 years old, Brett Banasiewicz (aka “Maddog”) is arguably the best BMX rider in the world. This weekend Brett place 1st in the Dew Tour Pro Park finals. Pretty cool to see him riding with some of our members too !!
Big congrats to Colton Walker this weekend, look forward to seeing him back next year !!
